Crits

Sorry for the lateness of this post: have had big problems trying to access Wordpress over the vacation.

As per the scheme of work in the module booklets, there will be crits this Friday and next. They will take place between 12.00 - 2.00 in ET34 and will be an opportunity for you to show your work now that your project is nearing completion. These are unassessed and relatively informal so WE are NOT expecting to see finished things - hence the name of the crit being ‘The Nearly-Completed Project’ - but rather to see a representative sample of the production work that you have done to date. This could be a couple of photographs, a short section of a longer video piece, a short audio piece etc. All the staff teaching on the module will be there as will all the other students so it is an opportunity, especially for those who didn’t present their work at the previous crits, to get useful comments about how their work can be improved. All of you then have two weeks to complete. During those two weeks I would suggest that you use all members of staff (on a daily basis!) to help you get your projects to the best possible state for submission.

Look forward to seeing you all at 12.00 prompt this Friday.

Cheers

URGENT NOTICE

311MC: Media Production

Urgent Notice

There are a large number of students who have yet to fully inform us of what their final project is or of what resources they require for the Degree Show. What this means is that you run the risk of failing either this module or the Level Three PDP module. This will also mean that you will fail your degree!

ALL students should, therefore, make sure that they arrange a meeting with their Academic/Personal Tutorthe Module Tutor (311MC: Steve Dawkins, PDP: Philip Draycott) or their cluster leader in the first week back to discuss progress on both modules. All tutors will have times dedicated to the module outside their office. Please make sure that you take advantage of this support:@ it could make a big difference to your final marks.

MP Photography Specialists, Friday (20th March)

On Friday this week (20th March) Jonathan and Paul will be conducting a group Critique. This will be an informal session with the aim of advancing your projects/ideas, so that post Easter we can start to look at final work.

This will start immediately after the 11am meeting.

Please ensure that you bring your test prints and all your related research so that as a group we can offer you some guidance.

Apology to Video Cluster Students

Hi All

Could i apologise for the situation around the lecture yesterday and today.

First of all, though, I want to make it clear that I am not apologising for ‘annoying people’ (I am not here to be liked) nor am I apologising for trying to get you to think a little bit more deeply about what you are doing and what you need to know at this stage of the course. What I AM sorry for is that many of you feel that it was a waste of time. I accept now that it was a mistake to do it in the form that I did with too little thought as to how you would deal with it. I would say, though, that this is the result of being in from 7.00 sorting admin, in a meeting from 9-12, in tutorials 12-2 and in an emergency phone call immediately before the lecture. I had little or no time to think through the decision properly. As those of you who know me best, I always try to do the best by students but accept that, on this occasion, it didn’t work out that way.

I am also sorry that some of you feel that you have not had enough input on editing throughout the course so I am making an offer that, if you let me know SPECIFICALLY what you want to know, I will endeavour to make sure that you have a session on it. The point of yesterday was to try to get you to think about what you needed for your project and how you would find that information out. Staff are only one possible resource and, as I said yesterday, what we/I could teach you in a two hour  session at this stage of the course is next to nothing. Together with the tutors, you need to have more sprecific information than it is possible to provide in a lecture.

I have to say that I am also a bit fed up with the reaction of some students, especially those who simply left without even trying to see the ‘experiment’ through and others. A little understanding sometimes goes a long way. Thanks to those who stayed and tried to do something positive with it, especially Matt and Mark.

Cheers

Video Cluster: March 5th and 6th.

Sessions this week are as the scheme of work but with slightly different times: lecture on Thursday 2.15 in ETG34 is on Directing Drama while sessions on Friday are 11.00 Scripting 2 in ET34 and 12.00 Setting up for a Shoot. This is so people can do both scripting and shoot sessions.

Cheers
